Applications

Chelators in Nuclear Medicine

DOTA like compounds acts as chelating agents that binds radiometals and links them to a targeting molecule such as an antibody, peptide, or other vector.

The radiometal provides the signal for imaging (PET/SPECT) or the therapeutic effect, while the targeting molecule directs the compound to the biological site of interest.

By forming a highly stable complex, DOTA ensures that the radionuclide remains bound during circulation, enabling precise targeting and reliable in vivo performance.

The efficiency of the system relies on the optimal combination of chelator (DOTA), radiometal, and targeting vector, as well as a well-controlled conjugation strategy.

Wastewater Purification

Polyaza-chelators exhibit a high affinity for transition metals, actinides, and lanthanides, making them highly effective for the decontamination of wastewater.

Their selectivity toward specific metal ions can be finely tuned by modifying the nature, number, and spatial arrangement of functional groups on the macrocyclic structure.

For this application, chelators can be functionalized with two types of pendant arms: one dedicated to metal coordination and another enabling immobilization onto solid supports such as silica or polymer-based materials.

These functionalized materials are particularly well suited for solid–liquid extraction processes, offering efficient and selective removal of metallic contaminants.
